How Ayurveda Transformed My Life
Eight years ago Ayurveda saved me.
At the time my boys were 1 and 3 ½. I was sleep-deprived and depressed.
From the outside everything looked great . I had a beautiful family, healthy kids, a supportive husband, and a house — what could be wrong? But on the inside, I was isolated, frustrated and stuck.
I found motherhood extremely challenging (who doesn’t, I know). I hated the feeling that my life was no longer my own (which it wasn’t). I felt like I had no control over my time. All day with the kids, I would busy myself cooking and running errands. Then, frustrated by not having any time to myself, I began to resent my husband and my situation.
I was stuck in a victim mindset and took out my discontentment on my husband and kids. My short fuse would lead to emotional outbursts and a hot temper.
Each morning it look 3 cups of coffee to give me the jolt I needed to start the day, and an entire chocolate bar to get me through the afternoon slump. As 5pm rolled around it was time for a few glasses of wine to “reward” myself for getting through the day.
Every day was Groundhog Day.
I was grumpy and irritable. My poor family had to endure my mood swings and bitterness. It felt guilty that the people closest to me were getting the short end of the stick. I didn’t like the person I was being.
Where was that light-hearted, fun-loving adventure-seeking person I was before? I had lost all sense of joy in my life.
Then one day I decided to dive into the vast world of Ayurveda. I didn’t know much about it at the time but was curious and wanted to learn more.
This 5,000+ year old ancient healing science completely changed my life.
What made the biggest impact was implementing the daily schedule or “dina charya”. What started as simple changes to my daily routine — eating dinner earlier, waking up earlier, creating a conscious morning routine, beginning to actually listen to my body — changed EVERYTHING.
By taking time to take care of myself, I became whole again.
I had more energy and stopped relying on sugar and caffeine to get through the day. My postpartum depression dissolved and the need for my daily dose of wine went away. My mind was clearer and more focused and I finally felt like I was in the driver’s seat of my life.
As I began to feel better, I began to gain clarity on what I really wanted. For the first time in my adult life, I had a clear sense of purpose and direction AND the energy, drive, motivation and enthusiasm to go after it.
From that point forward, I began sharing this life-changing ancient science with as many people who would listen. I have dedicated my work to sharing this practical wisdom and coaching my students into this transformational way of living.
“You'll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”
