EPISODE 93: 3 Steps to De-Funk Yourself
Last week I found myself in a bit of a funk. I was feeling down and took myself through a 3 steps process that allowed me to move through it and come out feeling 100X better. This is a process I've been refining over the last year that has changed the way I deal with the "shitty 50" - the 50% of life that's painful, unpleasant, challenging and uncomfortable. I want to normalize being in a "funk" because we falsely believe that we should be happy all the time. When we're not, we make it a problem and often don't cope in the healthiest ways.
Here are the 3 steps:
1. Move TOWARDS the uncomfortable feeling. Allow, accept and open up to it. Notice how it feels in your body. Pay attention to the sensations, vibrations and energetic expression of the emotion you're experiencing.
2. Understand the cause. Your feelings are caused by your thoughts. What are you thinking about? Focusing on? Twitch from "thinker" to "observer". This is the practice of metacognition. By doing this, you gain insight into how you're creating your "funk".
3. Redirect your mind. Use the following journal questions to generate more pleasurable feelings:
What do I already know about this?
What am I forgetting to think?
What would love say?
What would the wisest part of me say about this?
What's the best case scenario?
Why do I want this?
How do I want to feel as I create this?
Who do I want to be as I experience this?
