A Decade in Review
10 years ago I was in a VERY different place than I am now.
I had a 1 year old in tow, was teaching yoga classes and still trying to find my place in Kelowna, BC after 10 years of living in NYC.
We were living in a 2 bedroom apartment gifted to us by my husbands family because we came to Kelowna with nothing except for a few pieces of broken Ikea furniture.
During nap times I worked on improving my yoga teaching skills (working virtually with my yoga teacher who lived in NYC) and doing my own personal yoga practice.
In 2011 my second son was born. I suffered from postpartum depression, was exhausted and stressed out trying to take care of a newborn and a 2 year old, and trying to still find time to pursue my passion for yoga. This was also the year we bought our very first house which meant the pressure was on to pay the mortgage.
In 2012 I found Ayurveda. I dove in heart first and couldn’t get enough. As I began to incorporate the simple yet elegant practices and philosophy into my life, everything changed. This was one of the biggest turning points in my life.
My depression went away, I had more energy, more mental clarity and a fire was lit inside me. This ancient wisdom had such a profound impact on my life, I just had to share it with more people.
In 2013 I opened Kula House, my home yoga studio and began turning up the volume in my business. My yoga teaching salary of $16K per year meant we were scraping by to cover our expenses every month and I needed to get creative to increase my income.
I led my first detox and a boat load of yoga workshops to try to make ends meet. But it just wasn’t enough. That year I remember a very difficult conversation with my husband, sitting on our deck. I needed to make more money. Teaching yoga was not going to cut it.
It was in that moment that I decided to believe it was possible to make an abundant living doing what I love. I was unwilling to settle for a job just to pay the bills. I was determined to make it work.
In 2015, after 3 years of training with my Ayurveda teacher, I put together my first group coaching program Align and Thrive, based on the daily self care routines that changed my life.
That first year I led 40 people through my program. I was blown away by what was possible after just 10 short weeks of committing to self care. I knew these practices were transformational, but I continued to be astounded by the results my students were getting.
Not only was I helping people get healthier, become happier, feel more balanced and at ease in their everyday lives, but I was having a blast teaching and coaching. I was living my purpose, making a positive impact on so many lives, and making a great living doing so.
In the next few years I added 2 more programs - Empowered Living, which took people deeper into the practices and teachings of Ayurveda and Do Your Dharma, my life design program created to help people connect to their purpose, set and reach goals and be more productive.
After 5 years of leading transformational group coaching programs and helping hundreds of students take control of their health, their happiness and their life, I have to pinch myself daily because I’m so grateful that I get to live my dream life.
I made a choice that pivotal day to go after my dreams, to pursue my passions and to learn the necessary skills to make a great living doing so.
Now, I want to help others do the same.
I decided to launch Six Figure Yogi, a complete training program to help people package their unique gifts, passions and skills into a transformational program to leverage their time, income and impact.
I’ve got big goals for the next 10 years. I want to help thousands more people empower their lives with the daily habits, mindset shifts and skills that have been gamechangers in my own life.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing to be intentional in your life. Thank you for pursuing your own growth. Never underestimate the power of following your passions and the impact that makes on those around you.
Now it’s your turn. Where were you 10 years ago? How much has your life changed over the past decade? Are you moving in the direction you want? Are you living a life of your choosing?
It starts with deciding to believe that what you want is possible. Then, you have to commit to it. Do whatever it takes to get there. Don’t give up. Keep going. Your success is inevitable if you continue to believe.
